Schedule 1 is the part of Form 2290 that lists your vehicles. When the IRS accepts your return, it sends back a stamped copy, an electronic watermark with a receipt date, and that stamped copy is your proof that the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax has been paid.
What it is for
States will not register or renew a heavy vehicle without proof that the HVUT has been paid. The stamped Schedule 1 is that proof. Keep it with the vehicle paperwork, and expect to produce it at registration renewal, when adding the vehicle to an IRP account, and sometimes at a border crossing.
A draft is not a stamped Schedule 1
While a return is still in preparation you can download a draft Schedule 1 from your account. It is clearly marked as a draft and it is useful for checking the vehicle list before filing, but it carries no IRS stamp and no state will accept it. Only the copy issued after IRS acceptance counts.
When you get the stamped copy
The IRS decides when a return is accepted, so nobody can honestly give you a guaranteed clock time. What we can tell you is that your filing status is visible in your account the whole way (queued, submitted, accepted) and the stamped Schedule 1 appears there as soon as the IRS accepts the return.
Getting another copy
If you filed with us, sign in and download it again from the filing. It does not expire and there is no charge for a duplicate. If you filed elsewhere or on paper, you will need to go back to that provider or request a copy from the IRS.
If the details on it are wrong
A wrong VIN on a stamped Schedule 1 is fixable. See the guide on VIN corrections. A wrong EIN or business name is more involved, because the return was filed against the wrong taxpayer; contact us before you do anything else.
